World’s smallest McDonald’s buzzes with bees

The buzz on the world’s smallest McDonald’s is that it doesn’t even serve burgers. In fact, there are no fries, no shakes and no McRibs anywhere on the premises – just honey. That’s because the smallest McDonald’s is actually a beehive.

McDonald’s noticed that a number of its restaurants in Sweden have beehives on their rooftops. The initiative started out locally with one franchise but is now growing across the country, with more franchisees joining the cause to celebrate the initiative, which is part of McDonald’s Sweden’s sustainability work.

Bee populations have been declining worldwide and this is one effort to help keep the pollinators pollinating.

To pay tribute to those efforts, Nord DDB has created what probably could be the world’s smallest McDonald’s – a fully functioning beehive called McHive. The bees enter the hive through the main entrance and the restaurant also has a McDrive and seating outdoors.
